2.5km Around the Bay

Overview

Want a bit more of a challenge from the 1 km but not ready to take on the 5 km then this is the perfect event for you. With a limited number of swimmers this swim takes you from the sandy shores of Balmoral towards Chinamans beach and back. The race is split between Male, Female and Elite.

Numbers in the Elite category are restricted, The Balmoral Swim organisers reserve the right to determine who will be part of the Elite wave. Any entrants that nominated for the Elite category but are not selected to be part of the Elite wave will be allocated to the relevant gender wave

Registration

Enter Online only - $55.00 (early bird till 28th Feb), standard  $65 (1Mar to 31 Mar), Late $75 (1st Apr to 5th Apr)

No on the day registration 

Competitors need to be able to complete the distance in 1.5 hours as after this they will be asked to stop.

Competitors under 16 years are only admitted if they can show they have swum a race of 2km and have completed  in under 1 hour and must be 14 years or older on race day.

  • Check in is from 6:15 am -6:45am at the Registration tent located  on the beach between Balmoral Beach Club and Bathers. Please get there early to avoid delays.  Please be mindful of social distancing requirements.
  • All swimmers need to bring some form of ID to pick up their race packs near the Rotunda.
  • Your race packs include your timing tag and swim cap.
  • Cut off time for the swim is 90 mins

Alexander Patrick Hall trophy

Raise more than $300 on the Balmoral Swim Fundraising platform by 8pm of Saturday before the race as an individual and you will be eligible to be part of the Alexander Patrick Hall trophy.


On the Day


Please be mindful of social distancing requirements.

Timing

All competitors will need to check in at the 2km age group desk to pick up caps and timing tags.

Check in is at the Registration tent located  on the beach between Balmoral Beach Club and Bathers.  

Check-in: 6:15am - 6:45am

Start time: 7:20 am 

Bag drop
  • There will be a bag drop tent located on the beach near the registration tent
  •  open from 6:15am - 11:45am
  • You will be required to provide details (name and mobile number) so we can attach it to your bag for minding.

Please note the event will take care of your belongings, but no responsibility will be taken for valuables or clothing that are lost or damaged.

Toilets

Toilets are located at the north, south, and center of Balmoral Beach at Bathers Pavilion, Balmoral Baths, the Bus Shed and Balmoral Beach Club.

Minors need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian to all toilet facilities.

Event village

This year you can enjoy the event with the whole family in the outdoors. There will be entertainment, food, warm down zones & more.
Balmoral Beach also has some great cafes and coffee shops and places to picnic so stay around after the event and enjoy beautiful Balmoral.

Smoking

We request all participants to abide by Mosman Council's Smoking Policy. Smoking is not permitted on all Mosman beaches and Council parks or reserves .

COVID safe

This event will follow any health/COVID restrictions that may be in place at the time of the swim.

We ask that all swimmers do not come to the event if :

  • you are feeling unwell or have someone at home who is unwell
  • you have tested positive for COVID-19 or are a  close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and you have not completed the required quarantine period as outlined by NSW Health
Cancellation Policy

In the case where the 2.5km Event has to be cancelled, entry fees for those swimmers who entered this year will credited to next years event. Any registrations carried over from previous years cancellations will not be credited to the next years event.

If the Events swimmer participation numbers need to be restricted due to changing COVID restrictions the competitors will be chosen on a first come first served basis. Entry fees will be credited to next years event for those who do not make the cut of swimmers participating. 

Refunds or credits will not be made for any additional items purchased, such as event merchandise and charitable donations

Results and Presentations

All the results will be posted online later in the day.
The presentation will occur immediately after the race. Prizes will not be posted out if you are not there to claim your prize.

Participants wearing wetsuits are not eligible to win their category.

Getting There

Public Transport

To get to Balmoral you can catch a 114 bus from Royal North Shore hospital or a 238 bus from Taronga zoo. For more information visit Sydney buses info.

Parking

Balmoral Beach provides metered parking on the Esplanade and 2 hr parking on Awaba, Waitovu and Hunter streets

Please note: The conditions of entry into Council’s “Pay & Display” car parks must be complied with. Parking regulations will be enforced. Parking fees for April 2025 from 8am to 8pm are $10 per hour or $40 a day.

Perennial Trophy for the highest fundraisers

The Alexander Patrick Hall trophy is awarded to both the individual swimmer and team who raise the most money for the Balmoral Swim each year. Judges will award the prize to the team and the individual who have raised the most money by 8pm on the Saturday before the race. Set up your Fundraise page when you enter or do it later and see how you are going in the Alexander Patrick Hall trophy .
